Community Gazebo in Florida

Project Type: Gazebo

Thought you might enjoy seeing these panels and gazebo that were installed in the River Oaks Preserve Park in Fort Lauderdale. This was a joint project between FDOT and the City which is finally complete.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) worked with the City of Fort Lauderdale to create the River Oaks Preserve. The purpose of the Preserve is:

Create a stormwater pond to alleviate the severe flooding in the nearby neighborhood.

Create a “passive park” for local residents to enjoy. This includes an elevated boardwalk and native wetland plants which will attract wildlife.

Preserve a historic railroad bridge which was eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places by incorporating it into the boardwalk.

Install a gazebo with interpretive plaques that explain the historic significance of the bridge.

Thanks to SEARCH for designing the panels, Fossil for production, BOPS warehouse for the careful storage, and Yardcraft for the gazebo!

Photos from the ribbon cutting ceremony were taken at River Oaks Preserve. Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis and City Commissioner Ben Sorensen took part in the ceremony.

Overview provided by Lynn K., Senior Environmental Specialist for FDOT in Ft. Lauderdale.
